When it comes to breakfast cocktails, it’s hard to beat a good mimosa… and when it comes to mimosas, this recipe is the BEST! Made with just 3 simple ingredients, it takes your basic mimosa to the next level with the delicious addition of orange liqueur. Perfect for lazy weekends or special occasions… once you try it, you’ll never go back!!
Mimosas. They’re the most beloved of all breakfast cocktails… and for good reason! There’s just something about the combination of champagne and orange juice that always hits the spot. And this mimosa recipe is the BEST EVER.
And when I say best ever… I mean it! I’ve tried numerous mimosa recipes over the years, and there’s just something about the ones made with Cointreau that always stand out. Sure, they don’t need it. But they’re SO much better with it.
So what, exactly, does adding Cointreau do for a mimosa? Well… it adds a crisp, smooth orange flavor and a touch of sweetness that helps balance out the acidity of the other two ingredients. In other words, it elevates a basic mimosa and gives it that extra special twist that’s exactly what you’re looking for on special occasions!
Ingredients
Champagne – I always use a Brut champagne in mimosas since it balances out the sweetness of the orange juice. For this recipe I used Korbel Brut, but you can substitute any type of champagne you like.
Cointreau – To take this mimosa to the next level, I added a splash of Cointreau. Cointreau is an orange flavored liqueur that adds a touch of sweetness to a mimosa. Most recipes don’t call for cointreau, but it definitely takes this one to the next level.
Orange juice – I always prefer to use fresh squeezed orange juice, but any type of orange juice will work in this recipe. Use your favorite or whatever you have on hand!
Instructions
Start with a chilled glass – For the BEST mimosa, start with a chilled champagne flute.
Add the ingredients to the chilled glass – Tip the glass and slowly add the champagne, then the Cointreau, and finally the orange juice.
Top with champagne – Top off with champagne as necessary.
Garnish – Garnish your mimosa with an orange slice as desired.
Recipe variations
- Omit the Cointreau and just use champagne and orange juice
- Add a splash of any of your favorite liqueurs for a fun flavor twist
- Substitute a sweeter champagne for the Brut champagne
- Use any type of juice, such as pineapple, cranberry, peach, or apple
- Blend it with ice for a frozen mimosa
