The ULTIMATE Fruit Salad! This salad is loaded with fresh berries, grapes, kiwi, pineapple, bananas and oranges and tossed in a simple honey citrus dressing. Perfect for breakfast, snack, or even dessert… once you try this recipe, nothing else compares!
I’ll be honest with you: I’m a HUGE sucker for fruit salad. And I always have been! It goes all the way back to childhood… when I used to beg my mom to buy as many different kinds of fruits as possible… just so I could mix them all together and eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For me, it’s is what summers are made of!
And even though there’s technically no wrong way to make fruit salad… there are definitely right ways to do it. And this recipe is as delicious as they come. It’s the perfect combination of fresh fruits tossed in a sweet and tangy citrus honey dressing. The ULTIMATE in terms of fruit salads, and the ONLY recipe you’ll ever need again.
So what makes it so incredibly perfect? First, the variety of flavors. This salad has everything from berries to kiwi to bananas… and they all add a unique flavor to the mix. Second, the variety of colors! We eat with our eyes first, and this fruit salad has every color of the rainbow! Finally, the delicious dressing. Made with a simple combination of honey and citrus juices, it adds a touch of sweetness and a delicious pop of flavor to the fruit. And even though it’s not absolutely necessary? It definitely takes this fruit salad to the next level!
What ingredients are in fruit salad
Fruit – The main ingredient in fruit salad is… of course… FRUIT! There’s no perfect combination, but I always try to use a variety of colors, textures, and flavors. These are the fruits I used in this recipe:
- strawberries
- blueberries
- grapes
- kiwi
- pineapple
- raspberries
- blackberries
- mandarin oranges
- banana
Dressing – Although dressing on a fruit salad is definitely optional, I would highly recommend including it! It’s simple to make, using honey, mandarin orange juice, ad lime juice, and adds a delicious pop of flavor to any basic fruit salad.
How to make a fruit salad
Wash & cut the fruit – I prefer to cut mine into smaller, uniform sized pieces so it’s easier to eat. If you prefer a chunkier fruit salad, feel free to cut your fruit any size!
Make the dressing – Combine the dressing ingredients in a small bowl. Be sure you whisk it well so the honey is completely mixed into the citrus juices.
Combine & gently toss – Drizzle the dressing over the fruit and use a large spoon to mix, being careful not to crush the raspberries or mandarin oranges.
Recipe variations
The possibilities for a delicious fruit salad are absolutely endless. As I mentioned above, I always like using fruits that have a variety of colors, flavors, and textures. Aside from that, here are some fun ways you can mix up this recipe to make it your own!
- Add additional fruits, such as mango, cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, apples, pears, or peaches
- Omit the dressing or make it even simpler with just honey and lime juice
- Sprinkle fruit with granulated sugar and let it create its own “dressing”
- Add lemon or lime zest
- Sprinkle with shredded coconut for a tropical twist
- Cut the fruit into bigger pieces and skewer them to make kabobs
Make-ahead and storage tips
To prep this salad in advance, you can cut the any larger fruit to size (minus the bananas) and store it in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator. I would suggest doing this only up to one day in advance, as but fruit won’t last as long as whole fruit. I’d also suggest waiting to wash the berries until you’re ready to make the salad.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
